Drawings and portraits

This new series of coloured pencil drawings on tinted paper find their inspiration in portraits by celebrated masters. Each work used coloured pencils and are occasionally enhanced by white gouache. No collage element or chemically transferred image has been used and rendering depends on close observation of reproductions available as postcards. If, as a starting point, I used portraits by famous artists, I do not intend my drawings to be mere copies of the said masterpieces. Elements are freely incorporated in overall composition in order to create an artwork that is either surrealistic or even,

expressionistic. Each picture has its unique style and the story it tells can be interpreted by viewers in terms of their own visual experience.
